Argentina's President: Pork better for sex than Viagra?

Argentina's president thinks eating pig meat is really sexy. Many people in this beef-loving nation reacted with surprise Thursday after Cristina Fernandez promoted pork in a speech during which she not only said pork is better than Viagra, but suggested she's personally proven it.

"I didn't know that eating pork improved sexual activity," Fernandez said in a meeting with representatives of the swine industry late Wednesday. "It is much more gratifying to eat some grilled pork than to take Viagra."
She even joked that "it was all good" after she enjoyed some pork with her husband, former President Nestor Kirchner.
"I think they might be right," Fernandez said to a laughing audience.

The president's half-joking speech in which she announced subsidies for the pork industry won prominent play on television and radio stations, prompting discussions on whether Argentines should add more pork to their diet.
Argentines are among the world's biggest consumers of red meat, and most people here stubbornly reject the idea of replacing beef with chicken, pork or other meats. Despite Argentina lying along rich South Atlantic fisheries, seafood is rarely seen on dinner tables.

Fernandez approved subsidies to keep the price of pork low despite inflation, and her government has also recently subsidized red meat producers after beef supplies sharply declined in the South American country.

The head of the association of pork producers, Juan Luis Uccelli, supported Fernandez's speech by saying that Denmark and Japan have a much more "harmonious" sexual life then the Argentines because they eat a lot of pig meat.
"In Osaka, Japan, there is a village in which the people who reached 105 years old and ate a lot of pork had a lot of sexual activity," he told radio Mitre.
Others were skeptical.

"There is no study showing that pork meat significantly improves sexual activity," Amado Bechara, a specialist in sexual disfunction, told the Web site of the newspaper La Nacion.

Miss Virginia "Caressa Cameron" Wins 2010 Miss America Crown

Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron won the 2010 Miss America title Saturday night after strutting in a skintight yellow dress, belting Beyonce's "Listen" from "Dreamgirls" and telling kids they should get outside more often.

Cameron, a 22-year-old from Fredericksburg, Va., won a $50,000 scholarship and the crown in Las Vegas after a pageant that started with 53 contestants. She outlasted her opponents in swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview competitions.
Cameron is broadcast journalism student at Virginia Commonwealth University, and wants to become an anchor.

When asked during the interview portion of the competition her thoughts on fighting childhood obesity, Cameron said parents should curb television and video games.

"We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little," she said. "Expand your mind, go outside and get to see what this world is like."
Cameron said her win was a testament to her family's strength.

"You can be and become anything that you want to be, even Miss America," she said.
Miss California Kristy Cavinder was the first runner-up, winning $25,000.
The young women who came out on stage at the beginning of the pageant and danced to "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas are from all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

After a week of preliminary competition, they each introduced themselves to the crowd Saturday at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
"From the home of the Governator, I am here to pump you up," Cavinder said as she was introduced.
The judges, the public and contestants themselves then trimmed the field over the next two hours.

Actor and "Extra" host Mario Lopez hosted the 89-year-old pageant with help from Clinton Kelly of TLC's "What Not to Wear." The pageant was broadcast live on TLC.
The panel of judges included radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, actress Vivica Fox, musician Dave Koz, Miss America 2002 Katie Harman, gymnast Shawn Johnson and former "American Idol" finalist Brooke White. Comedian Paul Rodriguez was set to be a judge, but organizers said he pulled out because of a family emergency.

Cameron, crowned by 2009 Miss America Katie Stam, will embark on a yearlong run with the title to represent the organization and raise awareness for her chosen platform.
Cameron, Cavinder and Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk each won $2,000 earlier in the week for winning talent competitions among three split fields of contestants. Miss Oregon CC Barber, Miss New York Alyse Zwick and Miss Puerto Rico Mimi Pabon each won $1,000 in nightly swimsuit competitions.
Miss Oklahoma Taylor Treat won the $6,000 Quality of Life award, given to the contestant judged to excel most in volunteerism and community service.
Scores based on a week of preliminary competitions were added to Saturday's competitions to determine the winner. Each judge ranked their five favorites in order, and their ballots were used to pick the winner.
In all, the Miss America Organization awarded $340,000 in scholarships at the national level. The organization says its national, state and local chapters gave more than $45 million last year in cash and scholarships.
The pageant was preceded by a one-hour television special on TLC, "Miss America: Behind the Curtain."
The contestants picked 12 women from their own ranks who faced a public vote for one of three spots among the 15 finalists. Stam, a Seymour, Ind., native, was one of four finalists chosen by viewers last year.
The crowning of a Miss America began in 1921 as a publicity stunt to persuade tourists on Atlantic City's Boardwalk to stick around after Labor Day.

The bathing revue blossomed in the age of television into an American pop icon before fading in later years and losing it place on network TV in 2004. It moved to the Las Vegas Strip in 2006 in an attempt to reinvent itself and has found a home on cable television.

Judge awards ₦100m damages to Uzoma Okere

Justice Opeyemi Oke of the Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere has awarded ₦100 million in damages to Uzoma Okere who was assaulted by four officers of the Nigerian Navy on November 3, 2008.

Ms. Okere sued Rear-Admiral Harry Arogundade, the four naval ratings in his convoy whom she said beat and stripped her on the stated date, when she refused to leave the road for the convoy.

As part of the judgement, the court also asked the respondents to write a letter of apology to the claimants, which must be published in at least four newspapers within one month of the judgement. I'm getting confident with the Nigerian Judiciary, this shows that you can get Justice in Nigeria.

Serena Wins 2010 Australian Open

Serena Williams won the 2010 Australian Open championship after winning 6-4 3-6 6-2 over Belgium's Justine Henin. Following the win of the second consecutive Melbourne title, the 28-year-old Serena claimed her 5th Australian trophy (leveling the Billie-Jean King record in all-time list) and the 12th Gand Slam title in her career. For unseeded Justine Henin it was a great performance to reach the Melbourne final in her second tournament after a 20 month rest. In the direct meetings between the pair, Serena Williams leads 8-6, counting a 6-2 6-0 victory in 2008 in Miami,
right before Justine Henin retired even if being world nr. 1 at that moment.

Henin comeback gave results regarding the fact that she played two finals in the last 4 weeks. The Belgian tenniswoman claimed the Australian Open in 2004 and quit the tennis while playing the 2006 final due to stomach troubles.

Tattoorism: Dean's Samurai

Last Saturday, I posted some tattoos sent to us from Tammy in Texas. Her son Dean is also tattooed and, in a much bigger way. We'll let him explain:

My very first tattoo was done on my 18th birthday in 2005...[it is] a black dragon with kanji above it. About a year letter I had a koi fish done on my calf...both of these tattoos were just drawings I had found. In 2006 I started working on my rib piece and in 2007 I got together with John from A Different Drummer here in Wichita Falls (he is now at the Lawton, OK location), and the two of us collaborated on bringing the rib piece together. Once the drawing was to our satisfaction, it took a little over 2 months of 3-4 hour sittings weekly until the tattoo was complete. 16-plus hours and worth every minute!

In 2009 I decided it was time for an arm piece and went back to A Different Drummer and Tuan who was in Art Class with me in high school listened to what I wanted... and the arm piece came to life...this one was done in one day and took a little over 7 1/2 hours:

Both pieces are marvelously done.

Thanks to Dean for sharing his work with us here on Tattoosday! And a hearty thank you, as well, to Tammy, for being a cool mom, sharing her pride in her son's amazing body art!

Pictures: Venus Williams almost naked at Australian Open 2010

So far Venus Williams played excellent at the Australian Open, the American tenniswoman progressing to the second round after defeating Lucie Safarova. But Williams drew the attention of the public with her outfit during the game, making many people think if she wore underwear or not. According to the pictures and the slow-motion video recordings, Venus Willliams looks like she is somehow naked.

This is not the only time when Venus tricks the men imagination. In the double game played along with her sister Serena against the pair Raluca Olaru and Olga Savciuc, Williams wore a quite compromising outfit as well.

Celebrities unite world to raise £20million for Haiti earthquake relief

It was the night the superstars of music and film joined together to bring a ray of hope to the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
More than 140 of the biggest names on the planet performed at George Clooney's Hope For Haiti telethon - raising £20million.

Dressed in black, stars such as Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Robert de Niro and Brad Pitt urged the hundreds of millions watching worldwide to donate money for the 200,000 people killed and two million left homeless by the January 12 disaster.
Celebs even manned phones to take donations during the live MTV show.

Clooney, 48, told viewers: "The Haitian people need our
help. They need to know they are not alone, that we still care."

The night began with Alicia Keys singing her song Prelude To A Kiss in Los Angeles at 1am our time yesterday.

Justin Timberlake performed Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban and Kid Rock joined up for Lean On Me and Christina Aguilera sang Lift Me Up.
In London Beyonce performed her song Halo, accompanied on the piano by her friend, Coldplay's Chris Martin. U2's Bono, Jay Z and Rihanna also recorded contributions.
And in New York, Madonna sang Like a Prayer backed by a gospel choir, with performances by Sting and Bruce Springsteen.

The telethon ended two hours later with Haitian Wyclef Jean singing Rivers of Babylon. Beforehand he told of his own experience of the quake: "I carried bodies of my people in the cemetery. Right now we can see the second wave of the disaster coming. We have to make sure the second wave never makes it to Haiti." All tracks will be available on iTunes.
Take That, Susan Boyle and Cheryl Cole are among stars to record Simon Cowell's charity version of REM's Everybody Hurts, tomorrow.

LONDON Rihanna flew to Britain to add her voice.

Hawaii Real Estate Market 2010

Dear Hawaii Vacation blog visitors,
Hawaii Best Vacation blog has always been watching closely what's going on on the Hawaii Real Estate and Housing market. This is not any different for the 2010 Hawaii Real Estate Market. There is no way talking about Hawaii vacation and ignoring trends of Hawaii Real Estate. Why? Because when you once fell in love with the Hawaiian Islands, there comes a day that you are looking for your own piece of Paradise, a condo on Maui or a townhouse on the Big Island on the sunny Kona Kohala Coast.

Our 2009 Hawaii real Estate posts like 2009 Hawaii Real Estate market analysis or 'Is it a good time to buy a Maui condo NOW?', received top attention. Let's stick with the tradition and ask our friend Bill Jardine from Big Island Buyers Brokers what he thinks about the 2010 Hawaii Real Estate and any trends he sees. Today's article is beyond winning a Hawaii vacation with Hawaii Sweepstakes. If you consider buying Hawaii Real Estate in 2010, keep reading Bill's guest article:

The Hawaii Buyer's Market is likely ending soon

"January has brought us a fresh perspective as the year 2010 stretches out before us in all of its mystery and promise. There seems to be an anxious prognosticator behind every tree these days, and predictions are all over the board as usual. For many this is a time of planning, and wouldn’t it be nice to know what lies in store for the months ahead?

The author of 'The Black Swan' Nassim Nicholas Taleb, has taken a really hard look at our ability to predict the economic future and has noted that those with the highest degree of self-regard do the most poorly at predicting by far! Since I have virtually no pretensions at knowing anything about the future, perhaps you will take my predictions more seriously.

We are experiencing a mini-rerun of the financial inflation that preceded the crash of the financial markets a couple of years ago, and various magazine writers have published articles warning investors to keep their wits about them as this re-inflation occurs...(Editor's note: Bill allowed us to skip this paragraph about economic details for slowdown)

What this means to you is that there likely will be a gradual housing bubble growing over the next couple of years, and bank stocks should do quite nicely until the new bubble bursts. In the meantime, expect very low interest rates and improving real estate prices as a result. I have been listening a whole lot to the chatter of my fellow brokers in the West Hawaii market and find everyone pretty much on the same page. Hawaii real estate inventory is shrinking, prices are still low and expectations are that within the year we will see the return of a more attractive Seller’s market.

If you have entertained thoughts about joining us here in Hawaii you might better get on your hobby horse and dig in your spurs. The read is that this incredible buying opportunity in Hawaii is coming to its natural conclusion, and you may well regret missing super low interest rates and super low prices. For the many of us anticipating retirement, things may be a bit more serious. The Baby Boomers will soon begin retiring, and if one-percent (1%) of them decide to live their warmer years in Hawaii, we will have to build 70,000 new units to accommodate them. Yikes!

If you would like to talk-story about any of this stuff please feel free to call or drop me an email any time. Aloha, Bill Jardine, Big Island Buyer's Broker"

Well, this is what a longtime, experienced Hawaii realtor thinks about buying Hawaii real estate in 2010. We won't know for sure whether this will come true until the year 2010 is over. For now, we are grateful that Bill shared his opinion with us.

Here are a few tips for the motivated Hawaii home or condo buyers from the editors of best Hawaii Vacation blog. Don't just look from afar but come visit Hawaii this Spring 2010. Of course, you need to do your homework and determine the Hawaiian island of your choice, condo or house/townhouse, vacation rental (higher taxes) or not, price range you can afford + stick with it (no offense, Bill, but realtors have a tendency to show clients very nice properties, which they cannot afford) and don't forget to investigate future Hawaii property taxes or condo maintenance fees. Tattoorism: Tammy from Texas

Last summer, my wife Melanie met Tammy on the staff message board of their company's website, where she and other employees across the country can exchange ideas and feedback. As a leader for Weight Watchers, Melanie often comes across members and co-workers who have used tattoos for inspiration and to mark milestones.

When talking to Tammy, a leader in Texas, she learned that she was inked, as well. She sent her the link to Tattoosday, and Tammy sent us photos of a few of her eleven tattoos.

We'll let Tammy describe them for us:

"I got my very first [tattoo] when I was 21 in Virginia while getting a tattoo for my younger brother but I didn't get another for several years at which time I had my uncle in Arkansas place a rose under the butterfly I had done first. It is old and faded but holds so much meaning to me as my uncle passed away in his 40s about 5 years ago so I have him with me at all times...I then waited a couple more years and had a dolphin put on my left ankle as a reminder of a trip we had made to Florida. About a year later an apprentice in Shreveport added an ankle wave under the dolphin.

I then took a long break from tattoos and the rest have all been done in the last 5 years here in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the exception of the tribal butterfly [seen below]. I had it done in Lawton, Oklahoma, when my son was getting his rib piece finished up [a subject of a later post].

On my right thigh I have the New York Yankees logo:

On my left shoulder blade my husband and I got kanji symbols for Eternity for our 19th wedding anniversary. I have a tribal butterfly (the only tattoo I have ever picked off a wall) put on the top of my left foot and I love it:

When I hit 50 pounds gone, my oldest son paid for the star that everyone sees in pictures I post:

And a Pisspot with my husbands name [pictured left]. My husband just retired with 26 years in the service and was AMMO-I always wanted this but was never brave enough nor skinny enough for that so called "tramp stamp"... it actually looks awesome although this picture is a little blurry.

And of course when I hit Lifetime [when a Weight Watchers member reaches their goal and maintains it for six weeks], my rib piece came alive:

The photo above is the tattoo right after it was completed. Here is how it healed:

Most of Tammy's work was done at A Different Drummer Tattoo Studio in Wichita Falls.

Thanks to Tammy for sharing some of her photos with us here on Tattoosday!

A Lull

On January 20, I logged the following notes:

12:10 PM. Rather than wander in search of ink, I am trying something else. Staying put, here in front of the Amtrak Departures board in Penn Station, and seeing what walks to me.

I have only successfully met 2 of the inked nation in the last 27 days, and I'd like to resume posting more regularly.

I figure, sooner or later, this wintry drought will end.

12:20 A woman walks by with two interlinking gray hearts behind her right ear. I hesitate and decide not to approach her as she walks by. The tattoo didn't speak to me.

12:35 Still nothing. 5 minutes left in my little experiment.

12:36 Ed Hardy baseball cap.

Experiment Fail.

Daniel Returns with Another Machine Head Tattoo

Last month I featured a leg tattoo belonging to Daniel, who was visiting from Australia. At the time he alluded to the fact that he had a pretty cool chest piece, as well. Understandably, he wasn't about to whip his shirt off in Penn Station in December.

Anyway, Dan was kind enough to send me this picture. Although not the best quality from a photographic standpoint, it's clear enough to see what a great tattoo this is:

The inspiration from this art, also related to the band Machine Head, can be seen on their main web page here. Like his other tattoo featured previously, these pieces were done by Jonny at Abandoned Art in the Wanneroo section of Perth, Australia.

Daniel says they took two sittings and about five hours to complete.

Thanks to Daniel for following up with this photo here on Tattoosday!

Six Things Beyonce Will do on Her Six Months Break

Beyonce says during her break:

1. She is not stepping into the studio and will stay away from her shoots and recordings.

2. She would eat out a lot and would be visiting lots and lots of restaurants.

3. She is also eager to take up a few classes (maybe cooking or French-learning)

4. She is also keen to head into theatres and watch lots of movies munching popcorns to give her jaws something to work upon.

5. She, even, is desirous of making a dash to the Broadway theatres and witness some plays. Hmmm….

6. And finally, she quips, she’d be doing a lot of random things (of which neither she nor we have any idea, at present).
***

She needs the rest!
